Cod, egg and Nudja fried potatoes

How is your January coming? This is a month for starting new and exciting things. Some people take up running, some go on a diet, more or less extreme, some give up alcohol and some buy a gym membership. I used to buy a gym membership and it took me a few years to realize that no matter how convenient the location, unless utter self discipline was applied, I might as well have paid a small fortune per visit.

2018 ended in a quite manic fashion, the holidays were so much fun but full on. One of my oldest and best friends came for Christmas with her family. They are so much fun to host and the kitchen was the natural place to hang out. This was one of the most fun moments and for once I was glad Lina was there to catch it on camera!

Swedish Christmas food is very abundant and a few years ago I decided to have a party on Christmas eve and we were prepping before the party.

Christmas day is always English Christmas and the kitchen was busy again with cooking turkey and all the trimmings.

There is a tradition here to go in to the sea on Boxing day. It is too cold for me but always fun to watch.

The swim is for charity and I love the idea, I think I could even go in but I am not sure about getting out when it is so cold!

I had a few quiet days and I took a couple of days off and spent them with my dogs, in pretty much the same position as this one and it was pure bliss.


At the end of the holidays I felt I had eaten too much and I wanted something that didn’t taste like Christmas at all.

I had some Nudja, a spicy sausage from Calabria, Italy left over from making ravioli for the market.

I had pan fried it with fine diced red peppers and tomato.

I did a tomato and rosemary pasta and added cheese as well for the ravioli.

The sausage is quite spicy and I added some oil to the Nudja and pan fried cubed potatoes. The potatoes took on all the flavor. I pan fried cod and an egg and made a tomato salad and it was a truly simple but delicious meal.

What plans do you have for 2019? I want to continue to discover and try new foods, have more time to cook and experiment, and write the odd blog every now and then as well!
