My Writing Process Blog Tour

I have always wanted to write. I sometimes miss being creative and it is currently being channeled in to my cooking but I love dressmaking, write, take pictures, make other people smile, you name it! My blog is a creative outlet that in some ways is even better than cooking, I can share it with more people!

I love to buy ingredients I have never seen before and just between us I have a package of Hungarian grits and some kind of Greek grain at home that I can’t wait to get my hands on!

Chef Julianna very kindly invited me to participate in the Writing Process Blog Tour. I was honored and happy to be a part of this and share a little more about myself!

 

 

Chef Julianna, the author of the lovely blog Foodie On Board, cooks and shares all kinds of delicious sounding food. I would be very happy to sit down at her dinner table at any time! I was reading on Moroccan meatballs just before lunch (it actually made my stomach rumble!), it didn’t stop me from reading more about a wonderful sounding Coconut curry chickpeas with yams and baked cakes and desserts that looks so good you just want to grab a spoon and have a taste! It is beautiful food and beautiful pictures, an irresistible combination!

 

What am I working on?

Besides work the kitchen is due to undergo a major revamp and I can’t wait to have a properly functioning oven and to be able to finally unpack my kitchen gear! As always with any renovations/changes I get a little overwhelmed by all the decisions there are to be taken around it but at the same time it is lovely to be able to create your own. I hope everything will be done in 4-6 weeks. Meanwhile I am working on, weather allowing my barbecue skills and new recipes. I might even aim for that fire pit for some in the ground slow cooking and I want to build a small smokehouse. As you can tell I am not short of ideas! And regarding the smokehouse, I guess really I am waiting for some of my friends to come and actually show me how to do it as I am a completely hopeless DIY’er no matter how many videos I watch online about the topic!

I have some rough outlines for a supper club idea in one of my drawers and I sometimes take them out and do a little work on them, especially with my neighbor, it might at least be worth a try.

 

How does my work differ from others of its genre?

There are so many amazingly talented food bloggers out there, I am not sure how I am uniquely different but I have an open mind and love to try new foods and flavor combinations. I also like to try all kinds of different foods from all over the world. There are many cuisines I don’t know much about but I have an extensive list of foods I would like to try to cook more of, Lebanese, Vietnamese, Italian, and Spanish… I am not sure where it would end!

 

Why do I write what I do?

I love to write and in 2008 I decided that I would have a blog. I figured it would be the perfect break/distraction and I would I have just enough time to do it. My first nut to crack was of course what should the blog be about? After some thought there was really just one thing that made sense, to write about food! I am a foodie and I eat every day. That said not everything I eat is interesting but it is a way to share something I love.

 

How does your writing process work?

I get this question quite a lot from non-bloggers, how do I do it, how do I start how do I know what to blog about? So I started to think if I actually had a process and I seem to do. It all starts with something I want to cook, this could be anything. If it is experimental I have my camera ready and a notebook to scribble the down the ingredients and any cooking method. The notebook is to help me if I don’t have time to write the blog soon after as I might so easily forget a small but vital ingredient or exactly how I did it (if this matters!). Pictures are very important. Food can be very visually appealing and it is an area I am working on to improve every time. I have discovered that some food isn’t photogenic, in most cases it may look like a heap of various shades of brown food on a plate!

Once the food is cooked and served I try to write the blog as soon as possible to remember not only what was in it but also how it tasted. I always write the recipe first and then the beginning and the end.

Time is sometimes a luxury so I try to have a couple of ready-made blogs in the pipeline for when I know I won’t be able to write something and I don’t want to leave it too long before posting.

Sebby has a light hand at writing and cooks exotic foods as well as more traditional with equal ease. He is generously sharing his recipes and beautiful images of what he is cooking. It is a pleasure and inspiration to read the blog and I am sure we will hear a lot more from Sebby in the future!

 

Lindsay, The Traveluster 

Lindsay takes you around the world with her beautiful blog. Reading it makes me want to pack my bags and go travelling straight away! It is like you are there and I have to say most places looks brilliantly sunny and lovely, it is not always without a tiny bit of envy I am reading her blog, especially on those cold and rainy days! Have a look at her blog and get carried away, add places to your travel bucket list and perhaps one day, make it there yourself!

 

Saucy, Saucy Gander  

Saucy makes the kind of food that just makes me curious, I want to eat it, try and make it and watch her cook it! It is so easy to be seduced by her food, how about the sound of Badass smoky chilli cheese beer bread? I have the recipe saved as a must try and make. It sounds intriguing and head over and check it out, it looks amazing. This is just one example of the deliciousness of the recipes, lose yourself for a while and enjoy the beautiful images.

 

I have to admit I wasn’t 100% organized and I don’t have confirmation that Sebby, Lindsay or Saucy can participate but either way please head over to their blogs and I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do. Should they choose to accept the next date for publishing will be June 9^th
